Mark Houghton is currently principal horn of the
Fort Worth
Symphony Orchestra. Prior to this post, Mark performed as principal horn
of the Harrisburg and Phoenix Symphonies. He is a graduate of the Eastman
School of Music, under the tutelage of renowned professor W. Peter Kurau.
Scott Cantrell of the Dallas Morning News said of Houghton, “He had a tone
of burnished elegance and amazing expressive range, and he delivered some
protracted decrescendos that took the breath away.”
Mark has been a
prizewinner in the International Horn Society’s John Hawkins Memorial
Competition and the American Horn Competition, as well as a Clinician and
Soloist at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention.
He can be
heard on a recently released recording of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5,
featuring the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Miguel-Harth
Bedoya.
Mr. Houghton also serves as Adjunct Professor of Horn at Texas
Wesleyan University. Mark was fortunate to benefit from the instruction of
his parents, Karen and Dennis, who served as his first teachers, and
remain a lasting inspiration.
